Spain - Torremelinos
Costa del Sol

Saturday 24th April to Saturday 1st May 2010
8 Days  H4  HB4          Leaders: To be advised.

This is an ideal location for a spring holiday on the south east coast of Spain.  The weather is comfortably warm at this time of year, with the scorching heat of summer still to come.  This enables us to take full advantage of all that the area has to offer.  The resort is situated some 10 miles or so south of Malaga and its airport, so there is not far to travel once we have disembarked from the plane.

As well as having an attractive palm-fringed seafront, Torremelinos is set against the background of the Sierra de Mijas mountain range.  It is a well placed centre from which to visit various places in the vicinity.  Malaga is close by and well worth a visit.  Further down the coast there is the exclusive upmarket resort of Puerto Banus with a chic promenade, expensive yachts in the marina, expensive cars on the seafront, and expensive shops in which to look but, sadly, almost certainly not to buy!  Further round to the south, Gibraltar beckons as a quintessential piece of Britain adhering to the foot of Spain with its uniformed bobbies on the beat and Marks and Spencer.  There is the Rock itself with the famous monkeys.  In the opposite direction lies Granada with its interesting old town centre, and of course the famous Moorish Alhambra Palace, a World Heritage Site.  We might not be able to visit them all but we shall try to fit in as much as possible.

Excursions are not included.

The Torremolinos promenade lends itself to pleasant strolling, with stops for coffee and cakes.  The little shops in the town are also worth a visit.  In nearby Fuengirola, right on the seafront, Los Boliches Evangelical Church
can be found.  This vigorous fellowship reaches out to the passing tourists by setting up a free coffee shop each Saturday on the front, outside the church.  There they gossip the Gospel and invite the people to come to their service the following afternoon.  On average some 200 do!   It will be good to have fellowship with them.

The hotel where we stay is the 4 star Sol Principe. It is set about 5 blocks back from the seafront and It has its own pools.  We are staying there on a half board basis.  There are good reports of this hotel, and it has a high satisfaction rating.  As is usual we have our own room for worship and fellowship.
